about
A noisy, off-kilter song which didn't fit with the others. So here it is on its lonesome.
Thanks to Darrin and everyone else in the Subjangle family (no more daft questions, I promise)

Those of you who follow our Subjangle label with an interest that our sheer ‘seat of our pants administration and organisational’ skills do not deserve, will know that this Neil Hill/Shopfires recording project has been something of a revelation for us in 2024, selling out his initial run in around 0.2 seconds and being well on the way to clearing another run! Not bad for a Leicester based lad whose self-deprecating humour sees his Bandcamp profile dismiss his efforts as a “DIY pop recorded directly into a cheap laptop”.
Talking about this new Better Things single he also dismisses it as “A noisy, off-kilter song which didn’t fit with the others. So here it is on its lonesome” as the reason why it did not appear on his debut album.
Again the self-deprecation screams ‘not really’ as this is a track that twists and squeezes various aural textures together to create sheer 80’s anglo jangly indie-pop perfection with chiming and fluttering jangled riffs, being crushed under his signature no-fi production and a vocal nasality and languid disinterest that has placed the chic in ‘undie-chic’ for many years.
Already working on a new album, this is an act that the people have just seemed to immediately connect with.
I desperately needed something intoxicating and cathartic and this is just what the doctor ordered. Catchy melodies slathered deep in fuzz. Ralph Gonzalez
Me & Magdalena has always been a favourite RPP cover for me. Evocative of a dusty road movie, with distant state lines, sunsets, canyons and oceans; a glorious song about love, memories, loss, regrets and the tantalising, unknown possibilities and pleasures of the future. And I love the LDR cover, too! A sensual, fabulous collection of covers. Thanks, Glenn. broseleyimp
Two tracks of amazing jangle pop that are instantly recognizable as the work of Sacramento indie legend Scott Miller. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 29, 2019
